Collage is a method of cutting and laminating using chance and intuition in the tradition of the surrealists.

Methods of collage (cutting, joining and layering) can be an interesting way to develop and to use resists when creating felt forms. This class will focus on 'serious play' and will provide the student with a series of structured exercises to make new and very interesting shapes in their felt work. Students will develop and make a project of their own desire. Explore 3D shapes that will arise from cutting and laminating resist templates, cutting and joining fibres round the resist, and intervening in the wet felting process by cutting and re-joining during this stage. This workshop will expand the possibilities of the 3D objects you can make in felt.

Students will design some intriguing collage samples, then work on their own project of their own choosing, most likely a vessel, hat, or sculptural shape. Some students may choose to continue enjoying delving into the designing exercises.
